THE VOTE
Co-Director // 120’ // In Post-Production
THE VOTE is a character-led vérité documentary, shot from the perspective of three women candidates at the centre of the historic first elections in Egypt after the fall of dictator Hosni Mubarak: a moment when millions prepare to vote for the first time in their lives. Days away from the vote, as the world prepares to hail the birth of a ‘new Democracy’, thousands of protesters take to the streets calling for a second revolution, and a brutal power struggle breaks loose. Following the impossibility of decisions taken in the moment, THE VOTE is a story of how an election was used to crush an uprising, questioning some of our most engrained beliefs about democracy, the so-called failure of the Egyptian revolution, and the power of a vote.
